Shih Tzu Puppies for Sale – How to Spot a Good Breeder

Are you considering a new Shih Tzu for your family? Perhaps a Shih Tzu puppy has been on your mind for some time now and you are desperate to find your new dog and seem to be looking at Shih Tzu puppies for sale all of the time?

There are so many Shih Tzu puppies for sale that it is vital to know how to find an exceptional breeder to buy your new puppy from.

There are many good reasons for taking time and researching Shih Tzu breeders before deciding on a puppy. The main ones are to ensure that you buy a healthy, happy and well-loved Shih Tzu puppy from parents that are equally well loved by their owners.

What is a Good Breeder?

How can you tell the difference between a good breeder and one that has little knowledge of the Shih Tzu? There are some very obvious things to look for when assessing someone with Shih Tzu puppies for sale, read on to find out what they are;

A good breeder knows and loves the breed. They will only allow a mother Shih Tzu to parent one or two litters in her lifetime. They will do all of the necessary tests to ensure that the parents of the puppies are neither suffering from genetic problems nor carrying them to pass on to the puppies. They will also never have Shih Tzu puppies for sale that are not wormed and completely health checked, usually with first vaccination too.

What Will a Good Shih Tzu Breeder Not Do?

A good breeder will never have Shih Tzu puppies for sale that are described as Teacup or Imperial Shih Tzu. Breeding very small dogs with the aforementioned labels is actually the result of breeding from dogs with genetic problems, usually the runt of a litter. No ethical breeder would consider doing such a thing.

Those that breed the ‘designer’ dog by crossing a Shih Tzu with another similar, or quite different, breed will not usually be an ethical Shih Tzu breeder. The designer dog idea has become quite popular over the last few years and the Shih Tzu with his nice nature and easy going manner has become a prime candidate for cross breeding. They actually make quite nice little cross breeds, however anyone that advertises Shih Tzu puppies for sale as designer dogs or Shih-Poo or similar is not actually a dog breed Shih Tzu at all, but a cross breeder.

A good breeder will offer lifetime back up for any of their Shih Tzu puppies for sale. This means that they offer a home for any of the dogs that they breed if the new owner cannot, for any reason, keep their Shih Tzu puppy.

The most important thing to remember when looking at Shih Tzu puppies for sale is that a really good and ethical breeder will feel completely responsible for every dog that they bring into the world. A state of mind which will be apparent in every conversation that they have with a potential new owner.
